Colman, S.D. –Sioux Valley Energy has received a report that a utility scam is hitting its membership. Today, a member contacted the electric cooperative to report a suspicious phone call. According to the member’s report, the fictitious caller claimed to be an employee of the Sioux Valley Energy customer service department. The man told the member she needed to call 1-801-850-6519 to avoid disruption of service. A quick search on the Internet connects that number to a phone line in Utah.
If a member is delinquent on their electric bill, Sioux Valley Energy would first note that on the member’s current electric bill. The second notification would come in the form of an actual disconnect notice. If the bill still isn’t paid, a phone call is made to the member through an automated system asking them to call our office to remit payment. The call-back number that will always be given during the automated notification is 1-800-234-1960.
If you are unsure about whether or not the call is legitimate, please call one of our customer service representatives at 1-800-234-1960. Members may also make a payment directly to us via Sioux Valley’s secure payment system at www.siouxvalleyenergy.com.
