Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM)  Between November 2013 and April 2014, there were 900 cases of property owners in Sioux Falls failing to get the snow and ice off the sidewalk within 48 hours.

Kevin Smith, Assistant Director of Planning and Building Services, says most of the owners complied after they received violations, but 263 properties had to be cleared by contractors.

Smith thinks there were a high number of violations this snow season because the snow hit little by little instead of one or two or three big storms.

Now with a swing to warmer weather, the attention of the City’s Property Maintenance staff will shift to nuisance vegetation. City ordinance requires that lawns be kept shorter than 8 inches in height and noxious weeds be controlled.

Residents are encouraged to report potential nuisance vegetation violations by calling 978-6900 during normal business hours, or leave a voice message after hours or on weekends. Potential violations also can be reported online at www.siouxfalls.org/weeds.
