SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Faced with a need for more jail beds, the Minnehaha County Commission today approved issuing a request for proposals from architectural firms.
Commissioner Gerald Beninga says the final solution will take time, maybe as long as three years. The Criminal Justice Advisory Committee told the Commission that the County will need an additional 400 jail beds soon. That same Committee encouraged the Commission to approach Lincoln County and the City of Sioux Falls to help with the costs
The architect would do preliminary work on different options for jail expansion or building.
The bid could be awarded in June.
