Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Isolated severe thunderstorms have popped up around the area this morning. A severe thunderstorm produced quarter sized hail in Lake County between 7 :00 and 7:30 while a second severe thunderstorm in southern Moody County and northern Minnehaha County in the 8:30 – 9:00 time frame produced 60 mph wind gusts and hail up to half dollar size. These storms were moving southeast at 20 mph.
Widely scattered thunderstorms may be possible late this evening and through the overnight hours. Severe storms are not expected.
For later in the weekend through Friday, heat and humidity will begin to increase. Afternoon heat index values Sunday through Tuesday will climb between 95 and 105 degrees.
Along with the heat will come an increased chance for thunderstorms...especially Monday evening and Monday night. A few strong to perhaps severe storms will be possible....primarily along and north of a line from Wessington Springs eastward to Brookings and Marshall.
