Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Temperatures across South Dakota soared into the 100’s, causing air conditioners across the state to get their first workout of 2014 on Monday. In Sioux Falls the temps held steady in the 90’s for most of the day, with the heat index topping out at 100.
Carrie Hanko of the National Weather Service says no record highs had been verified as of Monday night, but the hottest point in the state was in the central Charles Mix county town of Academy, which hit 111.
It does appear that Monday’s heat will not linger into Tuesday, as more seasonable 80 degree readings will return to much of the area.
