SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - It’s Fire Prevention Week and the emphasis this year is on working smoke alarms.
Dean Lanier with Sioux Falls Fire-Rescue says the Department and volunteers will distribute detectors to homes in the Hayward neighborhood on Saturday.
Lanier says they'll go door-to-door to about 1,200 homes checking to see if they have working smoke alarms and if not they'll help get a new 10-year alarm in place.
Lanier says 60 percent of fire deaths result from fires in homes with no working smoke alarms.
