Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center soon will have six large trusses that span the entire width of the facility. From the comfort of your computer desk, you can watch their installation live from two different webcam angles.

Each truss weighs more than 100 tons and is 270 feet long and 30 feet tall. They are set in place using three cranes, and it takes a complete day to erect each truss. Then several days following each truss erection, the cranes continue to connect the truss to the structure by attaching additional beams. All six trusses are scheduled to be in place by the first week of September, and the remaining roof steel will be complete by mid-October.

“When trusses are placed on a building, it’s a significant construction milestone,” says Mark Cotter, Director of Public Works for the City of Sioux Falls. “It’s the final thing that helps people understand the size and shape of the building. Once those trusses all are set, additional work really can take off.”

The trusses are the last major piece of the building’s steel infrastructure. Next, the roof will be installed. Once the roof is complete, the inside of the building will be protected from the outside elements, which opens up the next phase of work, including interior finishes like carpet, cabinets, tile, and counters.
