Sioux Falls, SD (KWSN) - The Storm is pleased to announce the re-signing of four defensive weapons, John Setzer, DeQuan Starling, Deivon Tate and Elijah Fields.

Setzer (5'10' 180lb) proved to be a reliable weapon last season as he accumulated 43 tackles (fifth on the team), 24 solo, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception that was returned for a touchdown. As a walk-on in college at Winston Salem State University, Setzer impressed coaches with his dedication and quickness. Setzer still displays those qualities that helped make him a crucial player for the Storm last season. He will be an outstanding returning role model for the rookies on the team this year.

Starling (5'10'' 185lb) will be entering his second season with the Storm. He accounted for 7 tackles, 5 solo in the 2014 regular season. Starling played collegiately at Marshall University where he was a standout as a defensive back. Starling was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team, 20th in C-USA in tackles and an honorable mention Freshman All-America. He recorded the third most tackles on the team with 80 and 7.5 for a loss, 11 pass breakups and 1 interception.

Tate (5'11'' 185lb) is returning for his second season with the Storm. He will look to build on last year’s performance in which he tallied 31 tackles, 27 solo, and 1 interception.  During the 2013 regular season Tate played 4 games with the Nebraska Danger and had 20 tackles, 9 solo and 1 pass breakup.  In the playoffs Tate had 8 tackles, 7 solo, 2 pass breakups and 1 interception. As a leader on the team, Tate will undoubtedly play a vital role in this year’s success for the Storm.

Fields (6'2'' 215lb) tallied 88 tackles, 53 solo, 2 forced fumbles, 6 pass breakups and 2 interceptions during regular season with the Green Bay Blizzard. Fields was named IFL Second Team All-IFL squad and was IFL Defensive Player of the Week in Week 11. Fields has the athletic ability, speed and that unique ability to play linebacker, strong safety and also can run with receivers.

"This is a position we are very excited about,” stated Tyler Pederson, General Manager for Sioux Falls Storm.  “We have a lot of guys that can play multiple positions and each will bring a different dynamic to the team this year.  I expect this group to challenge each other and be very competitive throughout camp."
