SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - State and local law enforcement today promised more saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints between now and Labor Day.

Highway Patrol Lieutenant Alan Welsh says the effort is part of a national campaign called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” through September 2nd.

Welsh says the Highway Patrol will join Sioux Falls police and Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office on saturation patrols and hold sobriety checkpoints.  He says all law enforcement agencies will be working extended shifts with overtime.  He says troopers will be out late and longer into the evenings. The effort is to get drunk and impaired drivers of the roads.

Lieutenant Jerry Miller says Sioux Falls police will hold a daytime saturation patrol on Saturday, August 24th.
