SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - We now know the names of both of the victims from Tuesday’s fiery crash at 57th and Bhanson – 21 year old Tiffany Bass was ejected from the vehicle and 22 year old Calvin DeFrance was pulled from the wreckage. Both were airlifted to a Twin Cities burn unit; however their condition remains unknown at this time.
Clemens says several witnesses estimate the car was traveling between 70 and 90 miles an hour prior to the crash. He says the car weaved out of control, spinning and hitting a traffic signal pole. The car burst into flames and police think the rear gas tank ruptured and caught fire. The car did not roll, as pervious reports indicated. Significant damage was sustained to the roof of the vehicle.
Clemens says the occupants were not wearing seat belts and the woman was thrown from the car while the male passenger was pulled out of the car by a 47-year-old Sioux Falls man.
Reports indicate a second vehicle may have been involved in the incident as well. Clemens said it’s just a guess at this time, saying the cars may have been racing or chasing one another. Anyone who can fill in those blanks is asked to call police.
