Mark Twain is gone

Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) 95 years of history came tumbling down Tuesday in central Sioux Falls. The school district is demolishing the old Mark Twain Elementary building to make way for the new Susan B. Anthony elementary, being built basically right next door.

Schools Spokesman Ben Schumacher says it was a bittersweet day for the entire community. He says five generations of Sioux Falls families attended Mark Twain.

The playground for the new elementary will be built on the ground where the old brick Twain building once stood.

Schumacher says Susan B.Anthony is on track for opening for the next school year.
