SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell today announced final plans for the greater sage-grouse populating western states from the Dakotas to California.
Jewell says a broad swath of western stakeholders successfully avoided the necessity of listing the the grouse under the Endangered Species Act.
Jewell credits landowners, sportsmen, conservationists, industry officials, the goverment and private interests in years of hard work, cooperation and collaborative planning.
Land managers have committed to preserve core sagebrush habitat.
The plans also are compatible with continued energy and mineral development across the Dakotas.
