Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - Fire officials in Sioux Falls are investigating the cause of a Saturday night fire at an apartment building in central Sioux Falls

Saturday night at approximately 9:30 PM Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire at 201 W. 8th St.  A resident noticed smoke in the building and called 911.

Fire units arrived to find smoke and fire in the stairwell of an apartment.  Fire crews extinguished the fire in approximately 15 minutes.  Most residents evacuated themselves but firefighters did have to assist one resident out of the building.  There were no injuries to residents or responders.

The apartment where the fire occurred suffered fire and smoke damage but the other apartments in the building were not damaged.  Residents were allowed to return home to the unaffected apartments Saturday night.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 3 support vehicles, 6 fire trucks, and 27 firefighters.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted by Paramedics Plus Ambulance, Mid-American Energy, Xcel Energy, Red Cross, and City of Sioux Falls Police Department.
