SIOUX FALLS (KELO AM) - In a seven to one vote last night, the Sioux Falls City Council paved the way for services like Uber and Lyft to begin.

City Councilor Greg Jamison said, "The city has its' homework and this will be a good deal for residents."   Any company wishing to set up operations will be subject to an application process which includes a 1,500 - dollar annual fee.

Drivers will also be required to carry extra insurance and be subject to a peer review and background check.

The lone no vote came from Councilman Kenny Anderson Jr. who said Sioux Falls shouldn't bown to the companies requests.  He pointed out that the companies will perform their own background checks but the city won't have access to anything but the names of the drivers.
