SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The first significant snow is expected across much of southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa tomorrow.

Sioux Falls Forecaster Todd Heitkamp says snow should start falling around midday.

One to three inches of snow forecast for Sioux Falls with a potential of up to seven, south and east of the city.

Snow removal crews will either sand, plow or both in tomorrow’s first snow in Sioux Falls.  Fleet Supervisor Galen Huber says crews work faster and safer if motorists give them room.

If Huber calls a snow alert tomorrow, don’t park on any city street until it’s plowed curb-to-curb.

No matter how much snow falls in Sioux Falls tomorrow, one thing is guaranteed:  snow reduces traction.  Police Lieutenant Troy Lubbers says you have to slow down.

Lubber says there’s always a spike in vehicle accidents in the first snow of the year.

City ordinance says sidewalks must be cleared of snow within 48 hours after the system passes.

Code Enforcement Manager Matt Tobias says it’s important that residents be good neighbors.    Tobias says when the city receives a complaint it issues a citation and charges homeowners for snow removal from sidewalks.
