Undated (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls Schools Chief Brian Maher says Governor Daugaard was very bold proposing a half penny hike in the state sales tax to help raise teacher salaries.
He says he trusts Daugaard's judgement that the sales tax is the most "palatable" way to get the new money for raising teacher pay. Dr. Maher says he certainly would take more for teachers, but is more than happy with the half penny proposal.
Maher says that perhaps what is most significant in Daugaard's plan is that he values education in South Dakota and is going to do more "than just talk about it."
