Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The head of the Sioux Falls Education Association says Governor Daugaard as "boldly stood up and spoken" about the need to increase teacher salaries.
Pam Oberembt says her members are still a little sceptical something will actually get done in the State Legislature, but they are more hopeful than in the past due to the Governor's plan to raise the sales tax by a half penny to hike teacher pay.
Oberembt was on Bill Zortman's It's Your Business Show on KELO on Friday. She says to have the best teachers in Sioux Falls classrooms, you need to make their pay competitive with surrounding states.
The SFEA represents about 1,764 teachers in South Dakota's largest school district.
