SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sunday is the deadline for open enrollment in the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare.
Alexa Raymond is with the Rural Office of Community Services. Raymond says after the deadline, people won't be able to get health insurance unless they have a qualifying life event such as getting a new job or having a baby
She explains what those without health insurance need to do by Sunday. She says to contact a local navigators to help them go through the process of signing up. Or they can call the marketplace directory or gone online to healtcare.gov.
Raymond says there’s a penalty for those who do not have health insurance. For 2015 the penalty was $695 per individual, half of that per child or 2.5% or their household income.
