Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) The City of Sioux Falls is testing a new type of asphalt to fill potholes on a very ragged stretch of South Louise Avenue in the Empire Mall area.
“We take great pride in our city and that includes our infrastructure. We know that every spring brings a newfound challenge when it comes to our roads, but we tackle it with vigor,” says Mayor Mike Huether.
The new tougher pothole fixer is called Aquaphalt. It is supposed to work even in wet and cold conditions. Traditional hot-mix asphalt Has a hard time staying in potholes during South Dakota's bitter winters. The new Aquaphalt is also more expensive, so it will only be used on streets that need it the most, such as Louise Avenue.
South Louise Avenue from 41st Street to 49th Street is scheduled for reconstruction in 2017. The street currently is under design, and the construction next year will improve the road surface as well as storm drainage on one of the most traveled streets in the state.
