Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) – The estate of Scott Westerhuis, the man accused of killing his family then himself after setting the family home ablaze is being sued for over two million dollars. Mid-Central Educational Cooperative, based in Platte, South Dakota has brought the suit against the estate of their former Business Manager, alleging a “reasonable chance” that he misappropriated funds from the firm.
Mid-Central held a contract to support the “GEAR UP” Native American education initiative, which it lost over alleged financial mismanagement and improper accounting procedures. Court documents filed as part of the suit show the Westerhuis family owing thousands to credit card debt and online payment accounts.
