SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Metro Communications answers 90,000 9-1-1 calls and 175,000 non-emergency calls every year.
Director Daren Ketcham says this is National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
Ketcham was addressing the MInnehaha County Commission meeting this morning, asking for that body's official proclamation for the week.
He says the issues they deal with everyday, are most of the times, the worst days of other people's lives. He says that takes a lot of dedication and support.
The Department of Public Safety estimates there are close to 400 telecommunicators and dispatchers in South Dakota.
