Sioux Falls, SD (KELO-AM) Groundbreaking for what Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether has called a juggernaut of job creation - Foundation Park - is set for Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 a.m.
The Sioux Falls Development Foundation has invited Governor Dennis Daugaard, Mayor Huether and the proverbial cast of thousands to be part of the big event for what will be South Dakota's largest business park - a true mega-site. The public is invited too. Take Marion Road north from Interstate 90 and follow the signs.
The Foundation's Slater Barr says the 800-acre park will be a dramatic addition to the local economy.
"I think it will be somewhere between 4,000 and 8,000 jobs that will ultimately be created there," says Barr.
Barr says there is already over 100 acres in the process of being graded to make way for infrastructure and eventually business tenants. The City of Sioux Falls is investing an estimated $11 million to prepare critical infrastructure, including sanitary sewer, water service, and streets.
So far, Logistics Buddy is the only company that has committed to Foundation Park, but Barr expects many more.
He says the ground breaking means "we've opened the doors and are ready for business."
