SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - During the public comment period at yesterday's MInnehaha County Commission meeting, Matt Walz called on the body to consider limiting hours of sale or increasing taxes on alcohol.
Walz says cheap alcohol, widely available, is what's fueling crime in the county.
Walz told the commission that he intends to establish an alcohol policy alliance in an order to stem the tide of cheap alocohol sales. He says some alcohol is cheaper than juice, soda, milk or bottled water.
He says some alcoholic beverages are the same price as a 20 ounce diet soda.
Walz says he's not suggesting banning alcohol but adds that users are unaware of its health consequences.
