SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls Police continue looking for the suspect in a near-fatal stabbing yesterday afternoon at Duluth and Eleventh.

Officer Sam Clemens says the victim was cut below his armpit while he was trying to get the suspect to leave during an argument with others.

Clemens says the cut was four to five inches long and three to four inches deep.  He doesn't know if the blade punctured the rib but part of the victim's lung came out of the cut.

The stabbing happened in the 200 block of South Duluth and the victim walked across 11th to a friend's house for help.  That's who called police.

Officers closed 11th Street because the victim was so badly wounded that they thought he could die. They decided to preserve the scene as long as possible to gather as much evidence as they could.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was rushed into surgery.

Clemens says the victim is expected to survive and detectives hope to talk with him soon
