Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Construction activity is booming in Sioux Falls, and the final data for the year shows that Sioux Falls building permits broke four different records in 2013.
- The construction valuation for building permits issued by Building Services in 2013 reached more than $588.2 million. The previous record was $523.1 million, set back in 2007.
- A total of 7,953 building permits were issued in 2013, exceeding the previous record of 7,823 building permits issued in 2011.
- Townhouse construction set a record for the number of units issued at 292, exceeding the previous record of 262 units issued in 2003.
- The cumulative number of all dwelling units (single family, townhouses, duplexes, and nontransient apartments including independent and assisted-living facilities) set a record in 2013 at 2,039 new dwelling units, exceeding the 1,909 units issued in 2001.
“Sioux Falls is not only setting building permit records but also capturing national attention because of our growth and confident economy,” says Mayor Mike Huether. “While all of this is happening, city government is staying ahead of the growth while eagerly serving the citizens of our town.”
“2013 definitely is one for the record books in terms of building and growth in Sioux Falls,” says Mike Cooper, Director of Planning and Building Services. “One of the great things about this growth in our city is that it includes so many areas including new retail, entertainment, office, industrial, single family, and multifamily, as well as remodeling all over town.”
