USD to honor legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. with Day of Service

VERMILLION, S.D. (KELO AM) -- The University of South Dakota will honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 20 and a keynote address by humorist, storyteller and national speaker Dawn Fraser at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Students, faculty and staff from USD will join the Vermillion community on Jan. 20 for the Day of Service. All volunteers will meet at noon at the ballroom of the Muenster University Center for orientation (register online at https://www.psychdata.com/s.asp?SID=147660 to volunteer) followed by an afternoon of community service projects. The Day of Service concludes with a re-orientation for volunteers at 4 p.m. at the MUC ballroom. 

On Jan. 21, Fraser will present the program “The Art of Storytelling in Leadership” at the ballroom of the Muenster University Center. Fraser has traveled throughout the United States as a humorist and storyteller, including the National Center for Student Leadership, and she is the host and producer of “Barbershop Stories” out of New York City. Fraser is from San Jose, Calif. and has worked on performance and cultural advocacy programs in countries including Brazil, Jamaica and Ghana. She also blogs about everyday musings on the site “Reality La La Land: Where What’s Real…Isn’t” and she is a writer and performer with the Brooklyn, N.Y. sketch comedy troupe American Candy.
